Right to a Safe Workplace

Every employee has a right to a safe workplace. If you feel the work assignment is not safe:

  • Tell your supervisor “I feel the assigned work is unsafe. Please assign me safe work.”
  • Be sure to let your Union leaders know what happening is happening as soon as possible.

You can also ask for training before completing an assignment.

Report Unsafe Work Conditions

City of Salem employees should report safety concerns in one of the following ways:

  • The City's “short form” to report to Risk and Safety
  • Contacting your supervisor or Department Head
  • Contacting your safety committee
  • Contacting the department's HR Analyst

Be sure to make the report in writing and keep a copy of your notification and any responses you receive.
