Dee Dee Jacks - Candidate for Treasurer
Hello! My name is DeeDee and I am thrilled at the chance to be your AFSCME treasurer. I would love to be able to use my talents to serve and support our union in this way! I earned my Bachelor Degree in Accounting at Linfield College and for over three years now, I have been an Accountant with the Salem Housing Authority. I held the secretary/treasurer position with the Dayton Fire District from 2003-2008 and it seems this experience closely resembles what I can expect in this position. I have years of treasurer experience as well as a ‘positive, productive’ attitude AND I would be honored to be part of ‘the team’ so VOTE FOR DEEDEE JACKS!
Kevin Jowski - Candidate for Treasurer
Fellow Union Members:
I am proud to be a member of AFSCME Local 2067. Since joining our Local in August of 2010, I have looked for ways to serve. I have attended the Secretary-Treasurer workshop along with recently completing Steward training. I will also be serving on our Social Committee. My experience as a Business Owner involved filing various tax forms with the IRS along with budgeting, accounting, and management functions makes me a good candidate for this office. Our Union is facing some very difficult times in which our brothers, sisters, co-workers, and friends are facing layoffs and other undesirable cutbacks. As a Treasurer, I pledge to work to minimize the impacts to our members along with strengthening our Union’s presence. I would be honored to serve as the Treasurer of this local and respectfully request your vote this June.
Respectfully,
Kevin Jowski
Matt Starbuck - Candidate for President
Hi, my name is Matt Starbuck. I am running for AFCSME local 2067 president. I have worked in Public Works Operations in the Pumps and Controls section for four and a half years. I have been married for 28 years and have 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and 2 grandsons.
I am currently very involved with our Union as a Trustee, member of the Executive Board, member of Council 75, and also a member of the bargaining team.
As President, I will listen to all members equally and be a thoughtful and deliberate voice for local 2067. I am dedicated to the improvement of the terms and conditions of our employment with the city. I would consider it an honor to have the opportunity to serve you.
Jack Tucker - Candidate for President
Why I am a career Union member. 1999-2012.
I began my union career in 1999 with the City of Salem. Most of my uncles or acquaintances were either PUBLIC Service Workers building roads or local Police Officers, my father was a TEAMSTER (truck driver) all his life, although he did work as a Longshoreman for several years in Portland.
I was asked to be the communications coordinator, writing articles and flyers for the local. Eventually it grew into more of a newspaper, but with no identification, no-one knew what we were talking about, what the paper was designed for, or what its content was. With a lot of help from the membership, the local at that time developed an identity, they had no “logo”, “Trademark”, nothing to say who they were, even though they were the City’s Largest Local, nothing to recognize us as union members. So, we created a city wide contest to design an identity for us. One that would recognize, solidarity, multicultural backgrounds, hand-shake of friendship, and drawing members together as a unified group.
Working together as a group we have accomplished better communication with the city and built a strong Steward base. In 2000 there was an adversarial attitude (us-against-them), but when we started talking and working together most of those issues were negotiated in a more professional manner.
I have participated in a number of rallies across Oregon and in other States, graduated with the four year certificate from the University of Oregon U-LEAD program (for Union Leaders).
During my 12 years as President of AFSCME Local 2067, I have also been Vice-President of City Sectors for all of Oregon, on various committees in Council-75, and have been chief negotiator at the bargaining table for Local 2067 contracts and have assisted with union class presentations and training seminars.
Our membership has increased, attendance has expanded at meetings, communication with our Members, City Council, Management, the citizens and businesses alike.
Because of our membership, we have a sound treasury and good relationships. Our union has attended civic events, (ex: World Beat) we assist with social fundraisers (ex: food share) and in the past have filled a 10-yd dump truck with toys for the kids during the holidays. This is why I would be proud to continue my service to you, the membership, for at least one more term and assist any future candidate for President as needed.
Thank you,
Jack W. Tucker, President
Local 2067
